Severe Snowstorm

Description

Two days ago Delaware got hit with the biggest snowstorm of the season, and as per usual the state was not prepared for a storm this big. Even the highways remained covered, but the secondary roads hadn't even been touched. And like the smart person I am, I went out and drove in it, in my two-wheel-drive station wagon...

Driving in the snow really isn't that hard, and in fact I quite enjoy it. What I found annoying was all the other people who didn't seem to know how to drive in it. More than once I ended up behind someone doing 10mph or less, or stopping when they really shouldn't. Unfortunately there were so many people like this I cut my drive short and went back home.

So, if you're faced with a snowstorm like this make sure that you follow a few simple rules. First off keep a consistent speed. You don't want to be going too fast, but you also don't want to go too slow. If you go too slow you're not going to do well up the hills, and you're gonna get stuck and have to start over. This is why it frustrates me being stuck behind really slow drivers in snowy conditions. Next, always avoid taking turns too fast. This is really the hardest part of snow driving, taking awkward turns. Try to take the turn as shallow as possible. Slow down for the turn also. That brings me to my last rule. Brake as little as possible! Braking too quickly can make you lose traction and slide. Plus, once you stop its really hard to get going again, especially if you're going uphill. In fact, I even run red lights if I have to, as long as there is nobody else crossing the intersection(and its not an intersection with cameras). Otherwise just keep making right turns. And, most importantly, if you're nervous driving in the snow STAY HOME! Call out of work, skip grocery shopping, I don't care. The only thing worse than getting stuck yourself is getting stuck because of someone else!
